This battle took place in action round 3 of the game. British attacked from Kingston and a Colonial light unit was blocking Gnadengutten. The British won the battle 2 vs 1 so this was not even a Rout. So it seems like they should have been able to retreat to Oquaga and thus trigger the Iraquois trives to join the British side.
